[Myri asks Spike to come with her, and they check out a car, which she lets him drive, directing him to take them towards London. As they ride, she studies him in the darkness, before finally saying:]   I... meant to ask as well, how you were feeling. I heard people talking about what happened.

You want me to ... leave you? But I- [She's looking over her shoulder down the hall, though. She would only be in the way in a fight, just like she always was.]

Please be careful. [And then she runs]

[ thomas and spike are making their way through the ducts when they feel the entire thing shaking from the footsteps of the ember guard. thomas stops, looking over his shoulder in bewilderment. ] What the bloody blazes is that?

[bigbad]

Something I can hit, I hope. [He'll feel better once he's hitting something.]

[bancroft]

[ he spies the busted out panel that jack kicked out and works his way down there... pausing when he reaches it to look through with raised eyebrows. ] ... Not unless those mitts of yours are blessed with goodly power, friend. [ he'll... scoot over a bit to let spike take a look at JACK SWORD FIGHTING THE GIANT EMBER GUARD. it's terrifying. ]

[bigbad]

...I don't even know what that means. [So... probably a no. But wait, something's wrong. He looks around. (spot 21)]

...where's Myri?

[chessing]

The south doors! [ jack shouts it as he deftly dodges a blow from the thing, which is leaking flame out of the cuts that his sword leaves where it strikes. fire gouges the walls and floor where it falls, and jack has to carefully maneuver between it, his coat singed here and there. ] They'll lead to the roof!

[bigbad]

[Spike ignores the rope and jumps out of the duct (jump 22), then... looks around blankly because he's inside how can he tell which way is South (navigate 3). Especially with that giant flaming monster distracting him with how thoroughly it could kill him if it came down to it. Maybe it's for the best that he go find and protect Myri instead. He steps a few feet further back from the flames and shouts back to Thomas to cover his confusion.]

Hurry up, mate! She's without protection!

[bancroft]

[ thomas is waiting in the duct, perched there precariously, ignoring spike... until the ember guard lurches underneath him. he leaps from the duct onto its back, stabbing downward, just barely managing to pierce its hide (atk 38, dmg 26). the thing bucks with him on top angrily, and then suddenly unleashes a huge blast of magma like fire that fills the hallway. ref 24 for half of 26 dmg plus slow. jack gets caught in the rivulets, but thomas is safe up top. he yells down at spike: ] GO! For the gods' sake, go!

[bigbad]

[Reflex 27 means he gets the hell out of the way and starts to run, heading for the nearest door. Get to the roof. Find Myri. Get the hell out of here.]

[bancroft]

[ the double doors lead up to the roof, where myri has reached a dead end. there's no one up here but the two of them... and it's pretty dark outside. spike, however, can see just fine, including that tree branch that hangs over the fence at the far roof corner.

it'll just be one hell of a jump... ]

[bigbad]

[Spike trusts his own ability to make insane jumps (or at least survive the fall). Myri, however, scared and in pain as she is, without nice dark vision eyes like Spike has...

He grips her arm.]

Here, get on my back, love. I can jump well enough for us both.

[Ahh, everyone's favorite song: why the hell didn't I put ranks in jump.]

[Guess who didn't come this far to leap to her death?]

No, I- They're coming, aren't they?

[bigbad]

If that thing doesn't kill them, sure. But I don't want to bloody risk getting caught again, do you?

[He'd be happy to coddle her another day. Right now, his priority is getting the two of them out. Thomas and Jack can take care of themselves a hell of a lot better than Spike and Myri can.]

[witchwoman]

[She looks at him, then out at the darkness. She's spent so much time living in fear that the idea of pushing past it is almost impossible. But she had managed with Jack, had told herself to have faith. The Stargods hadn't been the ones to answer her prayers. It was these people, her friends. Her family had come for her. She had to have faith in them.

Nodding, she walks behind him and wraps her arms around his neck, securing herself up on his back.]

I'm sorry I got you mixed up in this. [She whispers against his shoulder.]

[bigbad]

Don't be. I'd have had a hell of a time pulling you out of all this from all the way in England.

[And with that he takes a running jump (jump 18) and hurls himself out to the branch, landing solidly. It takes him a moment to realize they're not falling to their death, then he grins.]

Easy as bloody pie.

[witchwoman]

[Good thing Spike doesn't need to breathe because Myri is squeezing the hell out of his neck, holding on for dear life.]

We're not free yet. [She reminds him gently.]

[bigbad]

Sure we are. [He starts climbing easily down the tree (climb 24).] Now we just have to stay free.

[witchwoman]

Spike, we're on an island, wanted by the most powerful man to reside on it. [She glances back.] Do you think they've survived?

[bigbad]

They're Dragon's Claws. If anyone can, it's them.

[witchwoman]

[Oh if they are on the ground, she can detach from him, I suppose.]

We need to wait for them. They'll know how to get off the island. They must.

[bigbad]

Yeah. But we'd better get out of sight. In case someone comes looking. [He's not letting her get far. His hand's on her shoulder as he looks around (spot 35) for anyone who might be coming and also good places to hide.]

[witchwoman]

Here. [She grabs him by the wrist and tugs him to a shadowy area. Myri is a professional hider- or she was before she came through the Veil and she hasn't lost her touch (hide 24). Here's hoping that this hiding spot works for two.]

[ as they move through the woods, they find a copse of bushes that seems like good cover in the darkness and settle in. some time passes, and spike sees several figures moving through the woods that look like guards, but none of them seem to find them, and they pass by, not to be seen again. it seems like perhaps the coast is half clear, but he'd notice an unusual figure moving through the trees wearing a dark green cloak. his spot is good enough to get a glimpse of her face - she looks human, well-dressed, and exceptionally lovely, and there's a sort of apprehension on her features that makes it clear that like them, she's also hoping not to be seen, as she glances over her shoulder. she pauses by a tree, bending down, and seems to be digging something up with a small trowel. ]

[bigbad]

[Someone smarter would probably just mind his own business and hope Thomas and Jack show up soon. Spike has never been someone smarter. He touches Myri's shoulder, hoping she takes the hint and stays still while he tries to get a closer look. He creeps up (move silently 15) and tries to see what she's doing.]

[witchwoman]

[MYRI DOES NOT APPROVE. But saying that would draw attention so she just looks at him and tries to convey "please dont be dumb and get yourself killed right before we get rescued" in one pleading gaze.]
