[Myri asks Spike to come with her, and they check out a car, which she lets him drive, directing him to take them towards London. As they ride, she studies him in the darkness, before finally saying:]   I... meant to ask as well, how you were feeling. I heard people talking about what happened.

Yeah. He got Myri when she tried to go back to the castle. Got me when I made the mistake of assuming my friend'd never hurt me. It's some sort of game to him.

...did they get the chip out?

[bancroft]

[ he nods, and then starts towards the door of the small room where myri had been watching from ] One of them made off with it, but that's going to have to be a problem for another day. For now, we have to get you out of here before Sarandis returns.

[bigbad]

Or we could wait til he comes back and I kill him. Seems a fitting thanks for taking out the thing that kept me from hurting humans.

[bancroft]

He won't be back alone. And Wynn doesn't know where we are - no one does. If he takes us all, we'll be lucky if anyone gets another shot at saving us.

[bigbad]

[And while Spike wouldn't be so bothered if it was just him, he can't let that happen to Myri. He turns to follow Thomas out.] Then let's be quick about it.

[dragonsclaw]

[ meanwhile up ahead...

jack and myri are duct crawling when he abruptly comes to a halt. ]

Something's wrong.

[witchwoman]

What? [She tries to listen for some sort of off-ness (listen 20 total)] What is it?

[dragonsclaw]

[ there's a strange hissing noise all around them, almost like the sound of steam or gas being released... ] I'm not certain...

[witchwoman]

What should we do? [You are the fancy dragon's claw here, jack. She's just the poor traumatized witchwoman.]

[chessing]

[ he turns in place, examining the walls of the duct, and then shimmies down a bit further and positions himself so that he's sitting facing the wall. he slams a foot against a plate (str 22) and knocks it out, where it clatters down below. he pauses for a moment, motioning for her to hold still... and then when he hears nothing looks down below and nods sharply. he drops the rope again and crooks a finger for her to go down first into the hall below. ]

[witchwoman]

[The kick makes her jump, still very skittish through this whole ordeal for obvious reasons. She follows his instructions and waits until he motions for her to move to the opening, taking the rope and lowering herself well enough to get both feet on the ground. Once done, she steps back to give him room to come down as well, her arms coming up to hug around herself, glancing around at the room nervously.]

[ they're in a long, sterile hallway with very few doors, although at the far end of the hall are two very large ones. jack lands down beside her, tugging the rope after himself and then takes a moment to look back and forth as if orienting himself. ] We're going to have trouble making it to the roof, but it's our only way out. [ he starts to head towards the double doors, when there's a hideous clanking sound that issues from behind them, shaking the ground beneath their feet.

there are more doors down that way, after all. fifteen foot tall doors that are now opening, revealing a hulking figure behind them that has to duck to get through. it's hard to tell what they're looking at at first. it stands about 18 feet, its rocky body flecked with brassy deposits, looking very much like an earth elemental might. except it also has flames flickering in its eyes and maw. the hulking mass of stone and brass surges forward, puffs of acrid smoke leaking from its gaping mouth. intense heat radiates from its surface, and smoke rises from where it treads.

jack cranes his neck to stare up at it as he draws his own sword, and he all but sighs as he says: ] ... Naturally.

[witchwoman]

[Myri has no weapons, and even if she did, she was no good with them. She steps back, eyes wide at the creature.]

Wha... What? What is that?

[chessing]

It's called an Ember Guard. Fire elementals of the nastiest sort, and loyal to a fault. [ he looks back over his shoulder quickly, seems to gauge the decision, then make a decision. ] Run, Myri. I'll keep its attention until Thomas and Spike make it out of the duct.

[witchwoman]

You want me to ... leave you? But I- [She's looking over her shoulder down the hall, though. She would only be in the way in a fight, just like she always was.]

Please be careful. [And then she runs]

[bancroft]

[ thomas and spike are making their way through the ducts when they feel the entire thing shaking from the footsteps of the ember guard. thomas stops, looking over his shoulder in bewilderment. ] What the bloody blazes is that?

[bigbad]

Something I can hit, I hope. [He'll feel better once he's hitting something.]

[bancroft]

[ he spies the busted out panel that jack kicked out and works his way down there... pausing when he reaches it to look through with raised eyebrows. ] ... Not unless those mitts of yours are blessed with goodly power, friend. [ he'll... scoot over a bit to let spike take a look at JACK SWORD FIGHTING THE GIANT EMBER GUARD. it's terrifying. ]

[bigbad]

...I don't even know what that means. [So... probably a no. But wait, something's wrong. He looks around. (spot 21)]

...where's Myri?

[chessing]

The south doors! [ jack shouts it as he deftly dodges a blow from the thing, which is leaking flame out of the cuts that his sword leaves where it strikes. fire gouges the walls and floor where it falls, and jack has to carefully maneuver between it, his coat singed here and there. ] They'll lead to the roof!

[bigbad]

[Spike ignores the rope and jumps out of the duct (jump 22), then... looks around blankly because he's inside how can he tell which way is South (navigate 3). Especially with that giant flaming monster distracting him with how thoroughly it could kill him if it came down to it. Maybe it's for the best that he go find and protect Myri instead. He steps a few feet further back from the flames and shouts back to Thomas to cover his confusion.]

Hurry up, mate! She's without protection!

[bancroft]

[ thomas is waiting in the duct, perched there precariously, ignoring spike... until the ember guard lurches underneath him. he leaps from the duct onto its back, stabbing downward, just barely managing to pierce its hide (atk 38, dmg 26). the thing bucks with him on top angrily, and then suddenly unleashes a huge blast of magma like fire that fills the hallway. ref 24 for half of 26 dmg plus slow. jack gets caught in the rivulets, but thomas is safe up top. he yells down at spike: ] GO! For the gods' sake, go!

[bigbad]

[Reflex 27 means he gets the hell out of the way and starts to run, heading for the nearest door. Get to the roof. Find Myri. Get the hell out of here.]

[bancroft]

[ the double doors lead up to the roof, where myri has reached a dead end. there's no one up here but the two of them... and it's pretty dark outside. spike, however, can see just fine, including that tree branch that hangs over the fence at the far roof corner.

it'll just be one hell of a jump... ]

[bigbad]

[Spike trusts his own ability to make insane jumps (or at least survive the fall). Myri, however, scared and in pain as she is, without nice dark vision eyes like Spike has...

He grips her arm.]

Here, get on my back, love. I can jump well enough for us both.
