[Elena doesn't know what she's doing, but her feet seem to be moving of their own accord.

This is her problem, and she can't help but feel as if she's the root cause for it all. Too many people's happiness, people that she loves, is at stake. She needs to fix this, however she can, and there are only a couple of ways to do it.

But first, she has questions. And she might only be able to get them from one person unless the tries scouring the minds of the other knights of the order.

And she's not sure she's ready to go that far. Or maybe, she just doesn't want to hear. What they say out loud is bad enough, sometimes.

So pretty soon, she's outside the door to Wynn's office, knocking lightly on the door. Wynn has always been an intimidating presence for her, and today is certainly going to be no exception.

Mind-reading? Shape-shifting?

[She tilts her head.]

But he was a changeling, meaning he was half human?

[ he nods ] From what I recall, his ability to read minds was quite limited, and something he rarely implemented. He preferred encouraging people to be forthcoming with information through other methods.

[Her lips press together. It's what she's tried to do, too.]

Did it matter? Did everyone else...believe him? [A beat.] Because from what I understand...we're not usually...very well liked.

[Oh good, we're getting into uncomfortable territory.]

Many of the other Knights were often suspicious of him, given the nature of his ability. That does not mean there were not those who trusted him entirely. Myself included.

[She nods slowly. She doesn't bother to hide that all of this is effecting her, because what would be the point? She'd have to be heartless for it not to.]

I can...hear what they're saying about me. Sometimes they don't even try to hide it. Especially not after...

[After her knighting ceremony. She takes a breath, collects herself.]

...What's going to happen to him?

[Clearly not talking about the past anymore.]

His fate will depend on a number of things. His willingness to cooperate, of course, any repentance he should or should not show over his actions...

And I'll be taking Sir de Tanos and Sir Spike's opinions into account, given they are the parties most directly affected by his dark deeds.

[Well, that doesn't bode well, does it.]

I'm not sure either of them are thinking very clearly on the subject yet.

[And that's, again, partially her fault. She wonders if Wynn knows...about that yet.]

One reason that I haven't rushed to have that conversation with either one of them too soon.

But if he could be convinced to cooperate, to tell us what he knew, to help us...that would help?

[It doesn't sound like they're going to up and execute him tomorrow, which is helpful. It'll give her time to...think, so long as she can keep everyone else from losing it and doing it before the decision's even made.]

Is there something you wish to say on the matter, Sir Gilbert?

[She has a lot of things to say on the matter. Too many. But they aren't things that she thinks anyone will understand. Maybe Wynn would, but she might also...make things worse by talking about them.]

I could talk to him. [Again.] In his own way, I think he...cares about me. [Or something. She takes a breath before she continues.] It might make it easier to get Thomas back. [Followed by another beat...a longer one this time.] And I don't want him to die.

The two of you spent a considerable amount of time together, did you not?

[She sure does look uncomfortable, but she nods.]

Yes, we did. [Keep talking, girl.] He doesn't talk to me the way he talks to everyone else. I think it's... an act. People expect him to be evil, so he doesn't have any reason to try anything else. But I don't think that's necessarily what he wants.

[She can see herself falling into the same ideology, if it weren't for her friends.]

After all, who else is going to hire a doppelganger?

[After all, even the knights have only had one other one in a hundred years.]

[wynn]

You think there's potential for redemption there.

I think everyone deserves a second chance if they want one. I won't be able to forgive myself if I don't at least...try.

[He just needs to prove that he's worth saving.]

We can give him a chance to make things right by helping get Thomas out of there. [And she can make things right, too. Keep her morals without betraying her friends.] With both of us...maybe we have a shot at it. And if not, well...then all you've lost is two doppelgangers that most of the castle doesn't like anyway.

[Ahaha Elena stahp.]

If you think, Elena, that I'm going to set your life at a lesser value than any other Knight here, you are quite mistaken.

[notaroundme]

[Punched in the feels. She'd give him a hug if it wasn't...Wynn.

So her expression will just soften instead.]

Someone has to do it, and I'm partially responsible for this mess.

[Besides, Vi has Luthir. Myri has Finnick. Buffy has Rafael. All people that shouldn't be putting themselves into the line of fire. Elena has the least amount of people that will miss her if something goes wrong.]

[wynn]

While I understand your desire to give him a chance to prove himself by addressing the problem he helped to create, I am not certain this is the mission to take such a gamble on.

There's too much at stake here, and we still don't know his motivations.

I know that he's fully aware they left him hanging out to dry. And that he thinks his death is already set in stone.

[Which is part of the problem, to be honest. They're supposed to be better than that.]

Do you have a plan already, then?

[wynn]

In the works, yes. Although caution will have to be the rule of the day. I won't risk facing the same disaster of our last encounter with Sarandis.

And it's likely we'll hear his terms, let him think we're playing his game. It may give us a clue to his true motivations.

[She starts to nod, exhaling through her mouth. She's still unsure about how she feels about anything, but she also doesn't feel like she's in a race against time.

The frustration is still there, though, under the surface.]

Can I be there?

[To the latter part.]

He's asked for those who were involved in the Talisman mission. I intend, more than likely, to send most of you.

I'll be shocked if it isn't some kind of trap. [A beat.] By most, do you mean minus Vi?

[She seems like the obvious choice.]

[wynn]

That depends entirely on the outcome of her experience in Manhattan.

[notaroundme]

[Another nod. A lot was riding on that. None of them wanted to lose their friend.]
